It is the largest financial centre outside of London and is home to the headquarters of Bank of Scotland, Sainsburys Bank, Tesco Bank and TSB.

Therefore it makes financial sense for Edinburgh to retain the graduates that come out of its three universities, University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh Napier University. In total there are over 85,000 students studying in Edinburgh every year but not all students remain in the city after their degree comes to an end.
